Decrease in the size of containers in June in Houston and Auckland ports

The volume of containers in June decreased in the Port of Auckland with the continuation of the trucks and carriers to adapt to soften the demand and the constant uncertainty in the customs tariff, according to the facility today.

Through the numbers, the port dealt with 168,460 TEU (twenty -foot containers), a decrease of 10.1 % of May, a decrease of 12.8 % of June 2024, when 193,158 TEU was passed through port facilities.

“This is not a seasonal decline, but it is the return of the market’s calibration,” Brian Brands, Port of Oakland director, said in a statement. “Importers and exporters set the supply chain timing decisions and make guidance decisions in response to advanced conditions.”

Despite the decrease in June, the volume of containers remains from year to date higher than the same period last year. The total size recorded 1.14 million temperatures, on the occasion of an increase of 0.6 % during June 2024. The loaded imports increased by 1.5 %, while the exports loaded witnessed a decrease of 1.3 %.

Houston port reported a similar pattern, as the total container sizes for the month reached 331,864 TEU, a 2 % decrease compared to the same month last year, but an increase of 3 % to a total of 2169,677 temperatures. The leadership of these transformations in the Texas port was continuing in resin exports, which helped to increase 16 % on an annual basis in the exports of the loaded container, even with 9 % loaded container imports for this month.
