Poll: Shoppers seek to combat high food costs

While American consumers see a little comfort from the high costs of food, 76 % of shoppers say they want more information to inform their purchases, according to a survey of the GS1 US1 technology provider.

The Consumer Consumer in GS1 USA found that 33 % of adults expect to pay more for food this summer compared to the past summer due to inflation, and half (47 %) expects to pay the same, indicating that a report of 80 % does not feel comfortable with the rise in groceries.

In the face of these pressures, 71 % say they read the stickers closely and often, and 66 % said they will wipe the fast response icon on food packages to access information such as freshness, components and validity age.

“Shopping behaviors are transformed, and consumers examine products and signs more than ever when purchasing to ensure their compatibility with their preferences and budgets,” said Bob Carptter, President and CEO of GS1 USA in a statement. “Consumers want more transparency, and our digital world can provide accessible access to the information they are looking for.”

According to the GS1 US, technology improvements can help retail foodstuffs to meet the growing demand for information, as the world brands start from moving from UPCS with a single -dimensional UPCS that works to operate the search for prices for more than 50 years to new two -dimensional QR codes. The company says that the rapid response symbols (QR) can participate in much more information than the brutal covered lines.

“While the motivation behind the transition to the QR codes supported by GS1 is to support the needs of consumer information, the industry also depicts many other advantages. This includes simplifying crowded packaging stickers, helping to facilitate the recovered elements, automating discounts on demand, and preventing expiration products,” said Carptter.
