National railways agree on six initiatives to improve cross -border cooperation.
KTMB works on frequent electric services south of the Thai border.
Government railways in Thailand (SRT) and Malayan Railway Corporation (KTMB) reached an agreement during the SRT -KTM 43 conference from SRT -KTMB to improve the railway cooperation to upgrade cross -border services including Bangkok -Butterworth.
The conference was attended by SRT Veeris Ammarapala, Affzar Zakariya, Chief Operating Operator at KTMB and Mohamed Irwan Mansor, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Land Transport at the Ministry of Transport in Malaysia.
The meeting agreed to enhance cooperation in six main areas:
- The resumption of the cross -border train service in Bangkok – Petrores
- Double the path
- The integration of passenger ticket systems
- Inspection and issuing the certificate from the shares circulating across the border
- Common promotion of tourism and railway marketing activities, and
- Create a joint standard operating procedures during emergency situations.
Malaysia has invested extensively in the scale railway rail south of the border and line from Pedang Basar South to Kuala Lumpur and Gemas is now electrified at 25 kV AC. KTMB five daily services south of Pedang Besar. However, there is only one diesel service overnight from Pedang Besar to Bangkok.
