The Devil’s nose line in Ecuador is reopened

The Vice President of Ecuador, Maria Jose Pinto, joined the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Roberto Locke, at a ceremony held at Alusi Station on August 20 to celebrate the reopening of 12.5 km Ala -Sebambi from the Gaalakil line.

This section includes the tendency of the famous Satan nose, with its dramatic switch sculpted in the Andes Mountains.

The Ecuadorian government is investing the rehabilitation of the Gawayaki -Kito line, which forms the national network. All 965.6 km was closed in 2020 when, along with other state-owned institutions such as the postal service and the National Airlines, the national railway was placed in the liquidation during the Covid-19s.

Government studies indicate that the reopening of the line will significantly increase tourism and enhance local economies, which reduces the need to leave the local population in search of employment.

“Restore tourism is not a whim, it is a fruitful social commitment, because when tourism is encouraged, the economy is strengthened and opportunities for development are created,” says Pinto.

SIBAMBE was reopened for $ 685,000 that the government that it provided to the municipality of San Pedro de Alusi, which was used to equip the stations, maintain diesel locomotive and wheel reforms on one locomotive.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, tourist trains are operated on a sustainable basis under a partnership between the public and private sectors, where the railway infrastructure is managed and operated by the private sector.

After suspending the services for five years, the QUITO line, which is 25 km, has now been reopened. The first section that was reopened was 12 km between Ebara and Antonio Ante, North Kito, where the scheduled services began in April. The trains began to run again between Alloushi and Sibambi on July 5.

The third section is scheduled to open later this year after the rehabilitation of the path and the shares circulated. This is the 17 km in length from Raibamba to Urbina, located between Satan’s nose and Quito. An agreement was signed on this project during the ceremony on August 20 by Locke, the Mayor of Raibamba, John Venuza and the mayor of Guano, Oswaldo Estrada.
