The US tariff threatens $ 18 billion in Vietnam exports

Possible US tariffs can lead to Vietnam to lose up to $ 18 billion in annual exports to the American market, according to an analysis cited by Yahoo financing. This projection from the United Nations Development Program, which depends on data from the Indexbox platform, depends on a scenario in which import duties are completely passed to consumers, although this has not yet happened because the effect on American inflation is still moderate. This estimate does not explain a 40 % separate tariff on the goods that have been transported via Vietnam, a measure that can be particularly destroyed due to the severe dependence on the country on Chinese components for its manufacture. Moreover, the analysis did not include the current tariff exemptions for consumer electronics, which constitute about 28 % of Vietnam’s total exports to the United States even if these decisive concessions were kept through the administration of President Donald Trump, the country’s exports may still face a significant decrease.
