Portugal complements the promotion of Beira Alta

A line from Bambilhusa was electrified to the Spanish border and resign with ETCS.

Portugal infrastructure (IP) has announced the completion of the main promotion of the 190 -km of Pampilhosa on the main Lisbon -Porto line to VILAR Formoso on the Spanish border.

The last section of the upgrade that will be completed between Bambilhusa and Mangawadi, as the Portuguese trains (CP) resumed passengers on September 28.

The promotion included work to enhance dams and improve drainage, as well as renewing the path throughout and building a new alignment to raise the maximum speed. Traffic rings were installed for 750 meters long freight trains and all flat crossings were removed, while the stations were renewed.

The Beira Alta line was speculated at 25 kV 50 Hz, and it was resigned with ETCS level 2 based on the GSM-R for radio communications.

The project also included building a new 3.2 km incentive in meals that provide direct contact from north to east between the Lisbon-Porto Main Line line and the Beira Alta line. This will enable the charging trains from Aveiro and Leioxões to reach the Beira Alta line without the opposite in Bambilhusa, and the construction of a new bridge included 1.2 km long and a pass of 820 meters pass.

“The Beira Alta line is a strategic corridor that connects the internal and major urban centers, as well as being necessary to integrate the railway with Spain and Europe,” says IP.

“With this update, Portugal now has a more modern, safe and sustainable infrastructure, able to meet the needs of passengers and exporters.”
