AutoStore improvements address warehouse challenges and bottlenecks

Fulfillment automation provider AutoStore has launched its Fall 2025 product lineup, featuring upgrades to its signature Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) that meet requirements for increased speed and flexibility, among other attributes.

The suite includes seven new features, three of which meet key customer requirements for automated case handling, flexible box handling and cold storage capabilities. AutoStore upgrades include:

  • Automatic statuswhich automates the entire process of loading and unloading cases, making it possible to move cases to a storage unit and then pick ‘all of them’ until they are empty – A simple yet powerful capability for high-volume warehouses, according to AutoStore. By combining box handling and piece picking into one flow, productivity remains high, and shelves stay stocked even during peak demand.
  • FlexBinswhich allows different sizes of boxes in one network, enhancing stock and SKU density [stock-keeping unit] variety. This enables warehouses to handle wider ranges of products without sacrificing speed or reliability, the company said.
  • Frozen network only, AutoStore’s multi-temperature solution configuration is a custom temperature-controlled storage system that reduces energy use and improves worker safety. It provides the same reliability as ambient operations in one of the most expensive and complex warehouse environments.
  • Improvements to CarouselAIwhich was launched last spring. Enhancements improve container placement for faster retrieval, add routing options, and support handling of lighter items. These updates boost productivity and provide warehouses with additional flexibility, according to AutoStore.

Other additional features include:

  • Fire standards: New low-pressure sprinkler design reduces installation costs by up to 35% while maintaining safety. Customers benefit from faster construction processes and lower initial investment.
  • Floor flattening: Laser scanning and chip technology eliminates the costly floor grinding process prior to installation. This reduces disruption and speeds up deployments.
  • CubeDeploy: One installer makes updating AutoStore software faster and simpler, with minimal downtime. This keeps systems secure, up to date, and running without interruption.

“At AutoStore, it all starts with the customer. These seven launches address key warehouse challenges, strengthen our portfolio, and expand capabilities to maximize ROI,” Parth Joshi, chief product officer at AutoStore, said in a press release on Wednesday. “What’s powerful is that we can now automate both complete cases and individual items in the same high-density system, delivering the most advanced solution of its kind. We enable customers to deliver with greater speed, accuracy, adaptability and scalability, while continuing to stay ahead of future demands. At the same time, software innovations are driving the next generation of fulfillment and supporting customers’ strategies for full automation.”

Some of the improvements are already in use at customer locations, according to an AutoStore spokesperson. Artificial intelligence (AI)-driven grocery platform Veloq is among the first companies to pilot the FlexBins solution, for example.

The fall launch follows a series of developments at AutoStore earlier this year, including its partnership with vertical farming company OnePointOne that supplies fresh vegetables grown with the help of AutoStore technology to Whole Foods Markets in Arizona.
