Bernhard Osburg.

According to the German News Agency (DPA), Bernard Osburg, former CEO of Thyssenkrupp Steel, is a candidate to succeed Sigrid Nekota as CEO of DB Cargo.

The supervisory board of German Railways (DB) is expected to meet on October 30 where a final decision will be made on Nekota’s dismissal.

If the change in leadership at DB Cargo continues, Osburg will be tasked with changing the operator more quickly than Nikota planned and regaining its competitiveness.

Osburg joined Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe in 2014 as Director of Automotive Sales and became Head of Sales Direction in 2017. He was appointed Commercial Director and Member of the Executive Board in 2019, rising to Chairman of the Board of Management in 2020 and becoming CEO in 2021 until leaving the company in 2024.

Osburg trained as a mechanical engineer at the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences.
