It’s been another week of mixed signals on spot container freight rates from major indices – with the Shanghai Container Freight Index (SCFI) continuing to show significant divergence against the indices supported by Drewry, Xeneta and Freightos.
In particular, the SCFI reading for the core Shanghai-Mediterranean Port this week, which saw the spot price rise 12% weekly, to $3,966 per 40 feet, was a significant outlier.
