Brazilian rolling stock manufacturer Marcopolo Rail has announced a contract to supply three DMUs from Prosper City to CFLP, the public sector operator of the 16-kilometre passenger line serving the city of Teresina in the northeastern state of Piaui. The contract value was not disclosed.

Marcopolo Rail will supply two DMUs and one three-car train for the 1000mm Teresina network. Also known as VLT, Prosper City is a lightweight DMU developed by the rail division of bus manufacturer Marcopolo to meet the network needs of medium-sized cities.

The Prosper City is designed for a platform height of 1100mm and has wide doors to enable rapid boarding and landing. The three-car version can accommodate up to 560 passengers.

Under the first export contract awarded in January 2023 worth US$15 million, Marcopolo Railway has completed the delivery of three two-car DMUs to Chilean State Railways (EFE). Each DMU has a total of 80 seats and can accommodate 140 standing passengers. The maximum speed is 80 km/h.

EFE announced that dynamic trials of the new 1000 mm fleet began on October 24. The DMUs will be deployed on the 88 km Talca – Constitución line, which serves 11 stations.
