PJM and Boom Software will reuse the line that served a power station near Graz.
Measurement technology specialist PJM and Boom Software have formed a joint venture to create a new railway testing facility in Millach, near Graz, in south-eastern Austria.
The new company, Infratrack Solutions, will take over the management of the 4.5km line that served the former Verbund coal-fired power station in Millach, creating a test site for innovation in the rail sector. The site is connected to the main line to Graz and the main advantages include:
- Electricity: The line is fully electrified and is suitable for all types of vehicles, including those with heavy axle loads
- Covered working area: A large hall equipped with a rooftop working platform and an overhead crane
- Track diversity: There are many different track configurations on site, including tight curves with a radius of 150 metres,
- Security: The site is fully fenced and patrolled 24/7.
Infratrack says it will focus on vehicle instrumentation, commissioning of new rail vehicles, static and acoustic EMC testing, improving the interaction between sensor technology and software under real-world operating conditions, and developing and automating digital processes.
“Finding modern test environments and test tracks for rail vehicles in Austria has long been a challenge, but we can now offer a solution,” says Andreas Schaller, CEO of Boom Software and Managing Director of Infratrack Solutions.
