Third-party logistics provider CH Robinson is expanding its presence on the U.S.-Mexico border with an additional 450,000 square feet of warehousing and docking capacity in El Paso, Texas, according to Borderlands Mexico. The brokerage giant said the investment strengthens its position as one of the largest cross-border logistics providers in North America as close-quarters transportation accelerates and shippers demand more flexible supply chains.

“We continue to see El Paso emerging as a vital gateway not only for high-tech freight, but also for automobiles, medical devices and healthcare products,” Jay Kornmesser, vice president of Mexican cross-border services at CH Robinson, said in a press release.
Headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, CH Robinson has more than 300 offices and more than 15,000 employees in North America, Europe, Asia and South America. The logistics provider manages 37 million shipments annually and has 35 years of operations in Mexico.
The company’s latest move along the border comes as cross-border trade continues to grow. Mexico was the United States’ top trading partner for the second year in a row in 2024, with a record total of $840 billion. So far this year, U.S.-Mexico trade has jumped 21% to $507 billion, surpassing 2024 levels, according to the Census Bureau.
“Juarez, located across the border, has a large manufacturing base. Our expansion into El Paso is a direct response to the evolving needs of our customers in today’s dynamic business landscape,” Kornmesser added.
The El Paso expansion complements the company’s continued growth in Laredo, Texas, and its broader strategy to build a scalable border network amid changing global trade patterns. In 2023, CH Robinson opened a 400,000-square-foot cross-border facility in Laredo.
In September, CH Robinson launched a shipment consolidation service between the United States and Mexico, aiming to reduce shippers’ costs by up to 40%.
CH Robinson is not the only logistics company expanding its operations at the border. Last week, Kuehne+Nagel announced the construction of a 217,431-square-foot facility in El Paso, adjacent to its existing location, to support growing trade flows between the United States and Mexico.
