Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) said it plans to reorganize its warehouse automation business in Europe and the United States in order to consolidate all warehouse automation-related organizations under the Toyota Automated Logistics (TAL) unit.
The new organizational structure aims to start operations in April 2026, and will focus on growing Toyota’s warehouse automation business through faster decision-making at the group level. In general, the company’s warehouse automation units provide automated systems for warehousing, warehousing, retrieval (picking) and other logistics operations in warehouses, fulfillment centers and factories.
The units affected by the reorganization will include three divisions: its Dutch subsidiary Vanderlande Industries Holding BV, which handles large-scale automation systems for airports, parcel handling and warehouse automation; its German subsidiary viastore Intralogics Holding GmbH, which operates in the field of small and medium-sized warehouse automation; and its US subsidiary, Bastian Solutions, LLC. Toyota acquired Vanderlande in 2017, also acquired Bastian in 2017, and acquired Viastor in 2022.
Since absorbing these units, TICO says it has been working to strengthen inter-organizational collaboration and create synergies through phased organizational restructuring. To achieve this goal, the company may take three steps:
- In Europe, Toyota Industries is considering merging the warehouse automation businesses of Vanderlande and Viastore.
- In the US, TICO may merge Bastian and Vanderlande’s US warehouse automation businesses
- At the same time, Vanderlande will continue to specialize in airport and parcel operations, providing higher value-added solutions and services.
