RAIL Baltica Project Project Rail has announced the official launch of what it describes as the largest electrification project for railways in Europe, with the signing of the contract to break the new 1435 mm -long measurement line under construction to connect Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia with the European Union (the European Union).
At 1.77 billion euros, the Energy System System of the Coblyc Rail Baltica Federation was granted to Spanish companies Cobra and ELCNOR. An official signing ceremony was held in the Lituanian capital, Venensus, on September 15.
The contract covers the complex BalTica network with an area of 870 km, which includes 2403 km days, making it one of the largest railway electrification projects in the world, according to RB Rail. With a budget of 949 million euros, the first stage is scheduled to be completed by 2030.
RB RAIL says the project will lead to the leadership of the use of the SFC technology on a large scale within the AC 2 x 25 kV electrical system, which will have 10 sub -traction stations. “This long -term reliable approach, efficiency, and strong environmental performance will ensure,” says RB RAIL.
The tender for the electrical contract was launched in May 2022, and expressions of interest were attracted from four federations. Three was chosen in 2023, with Coblyc chosen as a preferred bidding for “a strong technical solution, cost efficiency, and sustainability adoption data,” according to RB Rail. The contract was signed electronically on July 31.
“By choosing one contractor for both design and construction, we guarantee efficiency, consistency and cost control,” says Aiga Benfelde, chief contract manager in RB Rail and Chairman of the Procurement Committee.
