A combination of faltering demand, weak spot freight rates and a sharp injection of expected capacity has brought transatlantic container trade to breaking point.
The news comes alongside a warning that carriers must act, today in The Loadstar, as they face excess capacity and low rates for years to come.
Spot rates on westbound transatlantic trade have fallen since mid-September, according to Drewry’s World.
