CMA accused CGM of profiting from Tanzania’s problems through surcharges

African freight forwarders have criticized CMA CGM’s surcharge on port congestion in Mozambique announced this week as a “cynical” way to capitalize on Tanzania’s post-election chaos.
The French carrier confirmed that as of November 15, it will impose $200 per TEU on all shipments to Beira, but only on those arriving from the United States and Latin America on December 3, in line with Federal Maritime Commission rules requiring one month’s notice.
