Canadian company Advanced Power Dynamics will rehabilitate and modernize 180 diesel locomotives.
The Egyptian National Railway Company has signed a C$296 million (US$211.3 million) contract with Canadian company Advanced Power Dynamics (APD), which will rehabilitate and modernize 180 diesel freight locomotives for ENR.
The contract was officially announced at the TransMEA 2025 exhibition held in Cairo last week, in the presence of representatives from the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and the Canadian Embassy in Cairo.
APD says it will put locomotives built by Henschel and Adtranz back into service, while supporting local maintenance and manufacturing spare parts in partnership with Egyptian companies. Engineering, project management and supply chain activities will include ADP’s base in London, Ontario.
The Egyptian Cabinet approved the contract in September. According to local media reports, its covers are modernizing 55 locomotives currently in service and 125 locomotives that are not in operational condition, in line with the comprehensive reform plan of the Ministry of Transport that aims to localize maintenance activities.
