HMM has ordered four square vessels at Hanwha Ocean

In a busy week for HMM’s expansion plans, the South Korean line has tapped Hanwha Ocean to build four 13,000 TEU ships in a deal worth $730 million. The ships will be delivered in 2029.

on monday, splash HMM said it has contracted with HD Hyundai to purchase eight dual-fuel LNG containers with a capacity of 13,400 TEU, in a deal worth $1.46 billion.

HMM became the eighth member of the exclusive millionaires club last month. HMM’s fleet now stands at 1,016,180 TEU, according to an analysis by Alphaliner, which indicated that the Korean carrier’s operating capacity has doubled over the past five years.

In September last year, HMM revealed expansion plans until the end of the decade, earmarking a whopping KRW23.5 trillion ($17.48 billion) that will see its container fleet nearly double while its tanker and dry bulk fleets will triple in size by 2030.
